The LCD Display

Another way to visualize the CAN messages is to connect the LCD display as shown in the photo below. The display will show all messages transmitted on the CAN bus with its message ID. Therefore it is necessary to flash the other HEX-file (candisplay.hex) to the ATMega32 to which the display should be con- nected. After flashing the program onto it, this controller will only work with the attached display, and the board will not be able to send messages. Before the controller can display the messages the baud rate has to be selected. To select it the keys on the board (“KEY1” and “KEY2”, not the RESET-key) have to be used. “KEY1” changes the baud rate shown in the display from 10 kbps up to 1 Mbps. When the desired baud rate is shown in the display it has to be con- firmed by pressing “KEY2”. Now the controller can show the CAN messages on the display.
